Ai Nakatsuka gained her first bachelor’s degree in social work in Japan, her second bachelor’s in music therapy in the US, and her master's in music therapy in the Netherlands. After working with individuals with neurological and developmental disabilities in the US for four years, Ai joined a two-year volunteer program called Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and worked with students with developmental disabilities at a private school in Sudan. Ai went back to Sudan multiple times to work at the school as a music therapist for over three years and also got involved in multiple music projects which include the Khartoum Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, the Foundation of Music Education in Sudan, Sudanese Music Research Project, and Armistice Project. She is a former research affiliate at ArtEZ University of the Arts and former Rotary global grant scholar. She is currently working at day care facilities for children with disabilities in Japan while continuing to support the people of Sudan as a clinician and novice researcher.
